The Strip
Now there's a man named Cy
has a scar on his cheek and a shifty look in his eye.
Makes his livin' with his hands.
Spends it on whiskey down on the strip at the Sands.
There's a runaway named Dawn.
Her daddy so drunk he don't even notice she's gone.
The lights reflect in her wide-eyed gaze.
As visions of stardom and the stage dance through her days
She walks into the bar and catches his eye
and thinks to herself "I just made the mistake of my life."
He holds her stare tight like iron in a press
and everyone in the room, they know what comes next.
He said:
"Time flies kickin' round the town n' goin' down with your friends.
But time dies watching days crawl away stayed up in this pen.
If I could do it all over again..."
Sure - they had their happy days
but now they're all fittin', fightin', fussin' away.
She says "You ever lay a hand on me again
I'm going down to the bar and bringing home every one of your friends."
He said "You're just trying to scare me and I don't buy it
cause baby I'm your man - you wouldn't dare to try it."
Dawn says "watch me" and turns away
Cy goes to the closet and gets out his 12 gauge.
He said:
"Time flies kickin' round the town n' goin' down with your friends.
But time dies watching days crawl away stayed up in this pen.
If I could do it all over again..."
Now Cy, he's an honest man.
Works for his living, does the best that he can.
Never really thought himself as bad.
But those stinging words, they just about drove him mad.
An accusation, a denial, and shots, they fly out.
In the end, Cy’s friends never ever had a chance to cry out.
The cops informed Cy as they led him away
Dawn ran home to her daddy earlier that same day.
Now He said:
"Time flies kickin' round the town n' goin' down with your friends.
But time dies watching days crawl away stayed up in this pen.
"Time flies kickin' round the town n' goin' down with your friends.
But time dies watching days crawl away stayed up in this pen.
